TEST CAMP participants tour Arvato’s multi-user facility

A successful debut for TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS in Dortmund: On April 16, for the first time, event participants took an exclusive tour of service provider Arvato’s multi-user facility in Dortmund as part of the “TEST CAMP on tour” initiative. This was made possible through a collaboration between the TEST CAMP organizer and the intralogistics providers AutoStore and Nomagic.

In 2021, an AutoStore warehouse system—one of the largest in the region—was installed in Dortmund for several Arvato customers in the fashion industry. AutoStore installed a modular three-dimensional grid with self-supporting storage bins that are retrieved by robots and transported to the picking stations. Advantage: The system offers optimal use of available space and requires up to 75 percent less space compared to conventional rack warehouses. Peter Bimmermann, Director of Sales 3PL CE at AutoStore, showed visitors the 240,000 containers stacked in blocks. They provide space for more than two million items.

The putaway and retrieval process is handled by 379 battery-powered R5 robots that move along a rectangular guide grid serving as a guide rail on the top of the grid. In addition to the AutoStore system, a narrow-aisle warehouse for larger-volume items was installed in the existing facility, and the existing shelving system was adapted for hanging goods storage. Another highlight that participants were able to view: an intelligent picking robot from the Polish manufacturer Nomagic, which can both pick items from the AutoStore system and restock returns.
