TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS Puts Ergonomics to the Test
TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS is all about hands-on testing of newly developed products and innovations: Visitors don’t just look at products—they put them to the test themselves. When the event returns to Messe Dortmund on January 26 and 27, 2027, this principle will go one step further in the special “Exoskeletons & Ergonomics” test area.
Together with KOMPASS360°, a company based in Münster, the partners will make the impact of different solutions measurable. The goal of the free ergonomics check is to provide participants with reliable data on which tasks place physical strain on the body—and to what extent the products tested on site can reduce that strain.
“It makes a difference whether you simply try on an exoskeleton or use a lifting aid for a few minutes—or whether its impact can actually be measured objectively. That is the next step we are taking. Visitors will receive data showing the physical strain they experience and how effectively the tested solutions reduce it. At the same time, exhibitors will gain data-driven feedback on the impact of their products under real-world testing conditions. That is exactly what TEST CAMP is all about,” says Thilo Jörgl, Manager of TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS.
Employee Health Becomes a Business Factor
Employee health is increasingly becoming a business factor. Labor shortages, an aging workforce, and high levels of physical strain are putting growing pressure on companies—particularly in logistics and industry—to make workplaces more ergonomic. As a result, companies are increasingly turning to solutions that reduce physical strain on employees, ranging from exoskeletons and lifting aids to ergonomic workstation systems.
The issue is also becoming increasingly important from a regulatory perspective: German postal law already provides for stricter handling requirements for packages weighing more than 20 kilograms.
For companies, this raises an increasingly important question: What benefits do ergonomic solutions actually provide in day-to-day work? Which tasks place strain on which parts of the body, and which products can demonstrably reduce that strain?
However, the question of what constitutes good work extends far beyond ergonomics. Physical and psychological strain, occupational safety, processes, quality, and productivity are all closely interconnected in day-to-day operations. Data gathered from real-world work can therefore provide a common basis for decision-making across different areas of a company— from Safety & Health, Lean, and Operations to Quality and Management.
One Hour of Testing—Measuring Physical Strain Objectively
This is where the special “Exoskeletons & Ergonomics” test area comes in. KOMPASS360° will set up a dedicated measurement station for the event. The company combines sensor technology and measurement systems with ergonomics, the analysis of physical and psychological strain, and process analysis, and already uses these technologies to analyze workplaces in industry and logistics.
The approach follows an SLEQH framework: Safety, Lean, Environment, Quality, and Health are not considered in isolation but examined together where they converge—in the work process. At TEST CAMP, the personalized check focuses on physical strain and the impact of ergonomic solutions.
At the beginning of the test, participants are equipped with a sensor system. They can then spend up to one hour testing solutions from different exhibitors. These include exoskeletons, lifting aids for loading and unloading trucks and containers, vacuum lifting systems, ergonomic workstation systems, cooling solutions, and other technologies designed to reduce physical strain.
The sensor system captures which tasks cause physical strain, which parts of the body are particularly affected, and how this changes when different assistance systems are used. Movement patterns and process times can also be analyzed.
For example, the data can show how much strain lifting and carrying place on the back, shoulders, or knees—and to what extent an exoskeleton, lifting aid, or ergonomically designed workstation can reduce that strain.
Personal Evaluation After the Test
After completing the circuit, each participant receives a personalized evaluation that includes strain metrics, a task analysis, and a graphical representation of their route. This makes it immediately clear which tasks resulted in peak levels of physical strain and how these changed when using the solutions tested.
For the overall analysis, the measurement results are evaluated anonymously. They provide insights into how different ergonomic solutions affect physical strain, movement patterns, and processes under realistic working conditions.
